Designed after the watches worn by british pilots during the WWII era, ratio’s pilot watch line offers a link to the glorious past of the allied forces, their history and their character. The entire watch (case, crown, fixed bezel and case back) is made from 316l brushed stainless steel. The strap is made from tough cow hide and is weather resistant up to quite an extent. The dial and hands are made from brass, which receives a silkscreen printing, even for the Japanese lume.

Each of the hour and minute hands of the Ratio Skysurfer watches comprises two parts. These are the base part and the top part placed one atop the other. The 3D visual effect comes from this design maneuver; its prominence is further enhanced by the application of the high-quality luminous paint from Japan! The thin, cylindrical seconds-hand has the Ratio logo attached to its end. This logo, apart from counter-balancing the seconds-hand, enhances the overall visual appeal of the watch face.
We have chosen a non-radioactive, nontoxic photo-luminescent paint from Japan for Ratio Skysurfer watches. When charged under bright sunlight continuously for 8 hours, it will give you an afterglow that will last through the night without the glow fading too much.

Either the lume is applied to their indices and markers and the hour and minute hands or it's just the reverse - lume on the entire dial except on the hands, the indices and the markers i.e. where it previously had been.

The 200m water resistance of the Skysurfer watches is double that of most other pilot watches. 30m to 50m or sometimes, even 100 meters is common, but you must stay prepared for the worst when out on an adventure. Carved from a single block of the steel, the cases of the Ratio Skysurfer watches are brushed and polished maintaining the utmost quality. The 316L stainless steel is used for the screw-in case backs, hands, pins, and buckles alike. The low carbon content of 316L steel has high corrosion and magnetic resistance with a relatively good hardness @ 222HV (HV = Vickers Hardness).
The Skysurfer dials use three different lume layouts including a fully lumed dial in both Type A and Type B designs, the terms loosely translating to a simple, traditional clock layout and a more technical layout respectively. The dial designs are clever twists upon the Beobachtungsuhren (navigators’ watch) issued to the Luftwaffe during WWII, the entire colouring, luming and indexing done through silk-screen printing technique upon a brass base.
Brass takes colours better than any other metal and therefore, is least likely to fade over time and the silkscreen method helps us to keep the costs down without compromising on precision finishing. It also helps to us to keep up with the demands, for it is also the fastest way to apply the fine Japan lume in the most perfect way, resulting in smooth, even applications of the paint/coating materials. The slight double-domed sapphire crystal makes the dials appear bigger and the lume brighter, facilitating higher visibility whether its light, dark or twilight.
Skysurfer watches are powered by the 24-Jewels Seiko NH38A movement. The beat rate for this mechanical, automatic movement is 21,600bph (3Hz). It can run for 40+ hours on a fully wound mainspring. The seconds-hacking feature allows for accurate time-setting. Factory regulation sets it at +20 seconds but it can be further regulated to stay within +10 seconds or less. But this will break the factory seal.
